  • Steps of Boaz: Somali Bantu of Pittsburgh

    Looking for any number of individuals to be on a contact list. Targeted to occur Summer 2024, dates TBD. Adults and responsible youth are welcome. Youth must be supervised. Help with miscellaneous tasks to ready the center for the 2024-2025 school year such as organizing craft and supply items, as well as miscellaneous sorting and labeling.

    The Afterschool Program is always looking for additional evening help. The goal of this program is to foster a safe space for SB children to come and be themselves in the context of their culture, while providing and environment that supports their ability to find success at school. 


    These positions are open to adults with clearances. 

    Position expectations:

    Attend Weekly on Monday or Tuesday evenings from 5:15p-7:30p.

    Possess a willingness to provide a high level of active supervision and relational engagement through homework help, enrichment activities and crafts.

    Possess an ability to exhibit patience, understanding and love towards each child. 

    Attend a 2hr training prior to the beginning of volunteering.

    RECENT: Provide a cosmology workshop for 10 high school girls

    Tutoring for 2nd graders that are in need of word recognition and phonics. These children are new to Imani and struggle to read.

  • Urban Impact Foundation

    UIF focuses on understanding the social, mental, physical, academic, and spiritual factors that influence a student, by designing programs in order to impact the whole person. Opportunities include volunteer coaches and referees, Bible discussion leaders, Options coaches and mentors for graduating high school seniors and tutoring and literacy support. On Thursdays UIF needs dance teachers and helpers, floaters for performing arts, and Children’s Choir helpers. These programs take place on the North Side.

  • Family Guidance

    Mentor young people between the ages of 7 to 17 through One2One Mentoring. This is a flexible

    schedule. They help people discern their call to mentor. They will train you, support you, pay for your

    clearances. Sessions are held at various partner sites. To achieve the best and stable result for the

    children and teens, they ask for a 1-year commitment. The process is described at Be a Mentor - Family Guidance

    Consistent need for volunteers with our youth as tutors and homework helpers, we also need teacher aides.  Volunteers must be able to get clearances and commit to at least 1 time a month, but more

    frequently is always welcome, too.
